About Sara Tanner, LPC

Hello there! Iā€™m Sara Tanner, a licensed professional counselor specializing in complex trauma and attachment issues. With a passion for helping both children and adults, I focus on providing compassionate and effective therapy to those who have experienced sexual trauma, childhood trauma, and infertility or reproductive trauma.

I have gained valuable experience working in group practices, where I have honed my skills in several key therapeutic areas. My expertise includes:

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): A powerful approach to dealing with complex trauma.

  • Attachment Modalities: Techniques to address and heal attachment issues.

  • Brainspotting (Phase One Trained): A method that accesses and processes trauma in the brain.

  • Theraplay (Level One Trained): An engaging and effective approach for children and families to help them connect and work through emotions.

  • Nervous System-Based Therapy: A focus on neurodevelopment and the nervous system and how trauma impacts the brain at a neurological level.

  • Child-Centered Play Therapy: Extensive training in this method to facilitate healing in children through play.

My educational journey has equipped me with a solid foundation in both psychology and biology. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Biology, which has deepened my understanding of how trauma impacts the brain and nervous system. I also earned a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University, furthering my knowledge and skills in this field.

I believe in a client-centered approach, where you, the client, are in control of the therapy process. My role is to facilitate your journey and provide the tools and support you need to heal and grow. Integrity and honesty are the core values that guide my practice, ensuring that you feel safe, respected, and empowered throughout our work together.

Outside of my professional life, I enjoy reading, hiking, spending time at the beach, and hanging out with my husband. These activities provide me with balance and rejuvenation, helping me to stay grounded and present for my clients.
